The park

The original palace park today lies on an area of 10,2 hectares. The French park created around the buildings eased the hot summer days, and locked curious villagers out of the palace area. The are that embraces the palace is planted with trees by the sides of the road network within. By the sides of these were the little garden build-ups. In the park a pool, a building with changingrooms and a tenniscourt were built. According to old tales the park plans were based on the surface relief of Hungary, even the trees were planted in such an order and place. Tzhe whole area had public supplies, so when needed they could even use this facality for irrigation.

For long it was the head gardener who dealt with planting and taking care of plants in the garden. Thanks to his conscious and deliberate pursuit not only all the shrubs are present in the garden even today, but special and rare native and foreign tree species form a living community. All these trees together could live 70-80 year, sometimes even 130 years long.

Such plants are present in the area full of horticultural rarities such as the only one, enormous Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) - fast growing slightly branching tall species, perfect furniture material because of this, its walnut shell is used in therapeutics - whose log has a diameter of several meters.

The pearls of the garden are the two eminent Cypress Oaks, the bred version of pedunculate oaks (Quercus Robur Fastigiata).

Probably one of biggest Turkish Hazel (Corylus colurna) in Hungary with its more than 150cm log diameter can be found in this garden as well. It is not a native species, but planted as an ornamental plant. Its tasty seed serves for confectionery and sugar-industry raw material.

Due to its low number it can be found in, with its undivided leaves the European Ash Tree is a national rarity. It is the genus of oil trees with the biggest measures. It is especially valuable, its trunk offers perfect technological possibilities, and its bushy leafage is strong but flexible, while its trunk provides a special engraving due to its unique lining. The value of the area is further raised by the 300-centimeter diameter Honey locust (Gleditschia triacanthos), which is particular even here in Hungary. The honey locust, also often referred to as Christ locust, has long flat legumes as its fruit, which is similar to the locust-beam with its numerous seeds and sweet inside. The core of its seed is used for producing medication.

The Common Hackberry (Celtis Occidentalis) has the biggest trunk diameter (4 meters) in the palace park. The tree rises to the height of 20-25 meters, having quite wide leafage and pendulous branching. It represents the overseas type of these trees. Its petiolate leaves are ovate, serrate, and are slightly grooved, hairy. In the fall it produces tiny, sweet, dark-purple brownish fruits.

It is often planted by the side of the roads in towns In Hungary, since it is pretty much enduring within such conditions. It is easy to work, therefore often used for furniture, however sensitive to turning blue.

In the palace park the outdoor stage is surrounded by the old group of 25 Horse-chestnut trees (Aesculus hippocastanum) with their 3m trunk diameter, providing pleasant shade to the area in the afternoon. There are several beech trees that remained in other parts of the park area, which is due to the fruitful and expert work of the gardeners.
